To be honest, when I read the title of this blog post at SEO.com in my reader, I was expecting more. However, it raises a great point we don’t often hear about.
The idea of using averages to measure out the competition level of a niche/vertical/industry.
Anyone doing it this way?
Or are you mostly relying on data provided from SEO Elite, Market Samurai, TT, and manual indicators right now?
SEO.com hasn’t been known as the best SEO resource site on the web, but they revamped a few months ago and have been doing a much better job from what I have seen.
Great question!
I think there is a happy medium between relying solely on the tools you mentioned and using the averages he mentions in his post. I don’t know any good SEO who would JUST use those tools without ever looking at their competitors websites. Likewise, I know Kevin Phelps and I am pretty sure even he is not spending all that time averaging his clients competition.
Instead, I believe the point of his post is that we need to do a better job of looking to see what our competitors are doing and knowing before we start a campaign whether we have the resources to take them head on or whether we need to focus on a niche in order to get traffic.
By using the tools you mention and really getting our hands dirty on our competitors websites, we will be much better informed on how best to use our clients resources.

Does it hurt your SEO rankings on a website that is a year plus old, if you get 30 people to give list your link in a bunch of different yahoo answers within a few days? These are all from unique yahoo answer members with level 2 ratings with yahoo.
No! Unless if google finds out that you paid to yahoo or to those 30 people, which you didn’t, of course

What is a good way to sell SEO for small businesses like how would you indentify the best targets?
The best way to sell SEO to small business is to understand what value you bring to the small business vs. the other guy. SEO has been around long enough that most small business know what the discipline is. However, what they might not know is how to tell a hack from a reputable SEO. That is where your SEO skills need to come in to play. Do some research and find areas where you can capitalize on un-tapped search volume. Create a blog and start targeting those individuals with targeted posts. Also, use LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social media outlets to find prospects. The best way to sell SEO to small business is simply to call them up and find a way to get a meeting. After that, it’s up to you to promote yourself as the right SEO for them.
I’m starting a new SEO blog that is targeted to large & enterprise level business (http://www.digitalbrandingstratgies.com). While the content is light – again, I’m just starting it – the blog roll on the right will point you to more information.

Has anyone experimented on this ? If we remove the date and time from a blog, how would it affect its SEO ?
See if you remove date and time from the blog settings where it displays that when the blog started and which day is the first day of the week and all etc., then it’s not an issue at all, you can remove it. But, from the SEO point of view if you remove the date & time from the post then it could effect your visits, why so, because it has been noticed that 95% of the times in commercial internet marketing end user is in the search of latest thing and if he/she see the date then they will calculate it how much old is and how much good it will be to refer this post/article so it will be a good practice to keep the date & time for the posts at least.
However, today’s new going to be old tomorrow so you shouldn’t worry about what if my post gets older tomorrow and there will be no visits. In this case you’ve to take care of quality of writing, make sure your content written is unique, not copied and providing valuable or up to the mark information to the end user for the subject he/she is looking for.

For the most part, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) really focuses on the user being able to be cleaver with content on their webpages. That takes more of a user perspective.
I am looking for software that will look at other webpages that are similar and let me know comparatively what I can do that these other competitors use.
Might seem far fetched – any Ideas?
I use website auditor for optimize my webpages and X-site pro for create my website.

Hello,
I am starting a website for my local business.
What is the right seo price for a website?
It depends upon your requirement. Search for some seo company that provides deals like PAY on performance. One such company is www.digitalforce.in , pay only if you are satisfied with the SEO performance.

This my site http://www.itsolusenz.com, How to get keyword ranking?
Ways to follow keyword ranking is doing off page submissions one of the simple way known by every SEO consultant or you might be also aware of it. But to do strategical marketing/submission is a smart way to hype the website, strategy can be defined by a SEO when the website is analyzed and competitors are studied by the one.
Here, your website has PR 4 and backlinks are around 6000 out of which only 20 are do follow and rest are no follow links, but that is least of your worries because your website business line is as such that customers are welcomed from any search engines. Now, the worried part is your keywords, keywords on your site are too generic which has lots of competition and on the other side content has poor keyword density and if I am guessing it right you might be promoting your site with these same keywords.
So you need some better keyword search no matter whichever tool you select, but the keyword should be long tail having broad phase, less competitive and good global monthly searches than only your site will achieve good ranking positions in keywords and content writing should follow keyword density rule (1% to 3%) with new keywords. Too generic keywords is not letting your site to gain the position, don’t change it absolutely but make the existing one a broad search keywords. Do this much and I am sure this will help.

Im looking for a website or piece of software which tells me what keywords websites are using, does anyone happen to know if there is software that does this?
Also wondering if there is software which tells you exactly how many times those keywords appear in any given site, granted would be difficult to monitor off site optimization but surely there would be software for on site keyword monitoring.
The idea behind it was i want to use more keywords on site that competitors along side meta, title tags, h1, h2, h3, etc.
Anyone know any software that does this?
First off be very careful with keyword checking tools. Unless it is not used for Google. It is strictly against Google guide lines in some cases and can get you banned from Google, especially programs like keyword elite (which is not even accurate anyway). Trust me , if you get banned you will have to reset your ip and your mac address! IT WILL TAKE OUT YOUR ENTIRE NETWORK.
here is a great article on it http://www.kortia.com/keyword-elite.html.
If you want a great tool use Google’s free tool :
